Syndactyly is in some ways
not enough surface for the volume. There is not enough skin to cover
two fingers. Sometimes syndacylous fingers appear to have excess skin
because of a broad distal web. Despite this, after release, there is
always too little skin to cover both fingers at the base and
reconstruct a normal web without changing the volume of the finger by
defatting the fingers. This is an example. |

Simple, incomplete
syndactyly with what appears to be too much skin at the distal aspect. |
Skin flaps were designed to
make best use of the web skin using a dorsal flap to reconstruct the
web space. |
Skin grafts were needed to
cover the adjacent sides of the fingers proximally. |
Postoperative result. |
