The finger is exsanguinated with distal to proximal massage, and then one
of the digital arteries is released and pattern of refill observed.
This can be helpful as an adjunct test for valuation of possible digital
nerve injuries, as digital nerves are superficial to digital arteries,
and digital artery injury from a penetrating wound has a high likelihood
of associated digital nerve injury.
